Monday 10th December 2012: ‘Surviving the Inca Trail with a look at some archaeological sites on the way’, an illustrated talk by our Chairman, Diane Burleigh.
This is Members’ Christmas evening and will be accompanied by wine, soft drinks, cheese & nibbles, plus (maybe) a quiz with an archaeological theme.
Letchworth Free Church, Norton Way South, SG6 1NX
(on corner of Gernon Rd) 8pm.
NB. The church is having its central heating pump replaced that day and the heating should be on again by the evening. If it isn’t there will be a couple of halogen heaters to huddle around, and make sure you’re well wrapped up with your winter coats, hats, scarves and gloves!
Our Member, Arthur Thorning, kindly sent me this information about exhibitions at The Quadriga Gallery in London for your attention:
“Dear Gil,
NHAS members may like to know that the next exhibition (6 Feb – 21 April 2013) at the Quadriga Gallery (in the Wellington Arch) will be ‘The Birth Of Modern Archaeology’ – ‘…the unfolding story of the first scientific investigations into England’s remote past.’. The gallery is small but seems to get some good material – worth a look if nearby. Currently showing ‘Egypt in England’, which Val and I found very interesting.
The Quadriga is named for the four horse bronze on the top of the arch. Open Wed – Sun 10.00 to 17.00; £4 or free to EH members.See www.english-heritage.co.uk/quadriga Lots of memorials nearby, including the new one for Bomber Command.
Hope to see you at the NHAS Christmas gathering.
Arthur”
